MIEMSS & SSA First Annual Night for the Stars

April 5, 2013 -McHenry, Md., - The Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) Region I along with the Stellar Service Awards planning committee hosted the first annual Night for the Stars program to recognize and honor extraordinary efforts in emergency medical services (EMS). A dinner and ceremony was held at the Wisp Resort on Friday, April 5, 2013, during the 11th Annual Miltenberger Emergency Services Seminar, a continuing education program for fire, EMS, and hospital personnel. MIEMSS Region I is comprised of Allegany and Garrett Counties and is one of five regional offices located throughout the State. MSFA Suggest Build an Emergency Kit

Oct 28 - A disaster supplies kit is simply a collection of basic items your household may need in the event of an emergency. Try to assemble your kit well in advance of an emergency. You may have to evacuate at a moment’s notice and take essentials with you. You will probably not have time to search for the supplies you need or shop for them.

You may need to survive on your own after an emergency. This means having your own food, water and other supplies in sufficient quantity to last for at least 72 hours. Local officials and relief workers will be on the scene after a disaster but they cannot reach everyone immediately. You could get help in hours or it might take days ...

MSFA Announces BEFORE THE STORM - Safe Preparations Should Begin

Oct 28 - Over the next several days Hurricane Sandy will approach the mid-Atlantic with the exact landfall location still uncertain. Wherever the storm comes on shore, the state, will feel the impact of the storm with high winds and heavy rain early next week.

Miltenberger Emergency Services Planning Committee Seeks Nominees

July 12 - This year, the Miltenberger Seminar Planning Committee would like to give the Emergency Services community a chance to nominate themselves or coworkers to be recognized at our appreciation dinner, 'Region I Night for Stars'. One case will be selected from Garrett County and one from Allegany County. Everyone that was involved, from dispatch to recovery, will receive a 'Stellar Service Award'. The selected case must include a combination of pre-hospital Fire/EMS providers and local hospital staff, and should not include a case of attempted suicide, drug abuse or alcohol abuse.
